Stylish Hospital Gowns Are Making A Huge Impact For Kids With Serious Illnesses

A group of Canadians are aiming to redesign hospital wear for sick children and teens to help make them “feel more like themselves while undergoing treatment.”

“When you can’t wear what you want, you feel like you’re not who you should be. You’re just your illness. You’re just a hospital patient.”

3

The collaborative effort between nonprofit organization Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada and several local fashion designers has just launched at a hospital in Ontario. Their hopes are to bring these new stylish gowns to hospitals across the country, and beyond.

4

Trevor Dicaire, the senior vice president of development at Starlight, told BuzzFeed they were “blown away” by the patients’ reactions as they put on their new and improved gowns.

5

“Seeing the smiles, hearing the giggles, watching the excitement… I knew we had to bring this program to as many hospitalized teens in Canada as possible,” he said.

6

About 100 newly designed gowns were given to children and teens at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) over the last two days. The project is called “Warb+Robes.”

7

Ward+Robes is already in talks with more than 130 hospitals across the country. Their goal is to have gowns for every one of them.
